John Bremner

Bass Guitar
John moved to Dumfries from Biggar in 1993. He's had a love of music from an early age after being introduced to the songs of Elvis by his mum when he was only 8. In 2016 John was asked by his friend and drummer Neil Paterson if he wanted to learn bass and join punk/indie band Poison Ivy League. John didn't need to be asked twice. In 2018 Scott invited John to join Way Up and he has enjoyed being involved in original songs from their bare bones to recording and playing live and he is loving every minute. John's Influences include Elvis, Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Ramones, Joy Division, New Order and lots of vintage punk..!! John also plays in local covers band The Subtractions playing a mix of rock, punk & indie music.

Peter Fergusson

Drums and backing vocals
On the drums we have a veteran of the local Dumfries music scene , Pete Fergusson. Pete is completely self taught and learned drums by playing along to records on a blue sparkle “Del Rey”3 piece drum kit his mum and dad bought for his sister at his parents house in Castle Douglas in 1979. Pete is a huge fan of live music playing in several local bands. His likes include everything from Def Leppard to Deep Purple and BB King to Buckcherry . He cites his influences as Ian Paice, Cozy Powell and Charlie Watts and is a huge fan of the diverse Way Up song styles and the opportunity to make his own mark on the Way Up sound both in the studio and live .

John Marshall

Lead Guitar
Hailing from West Yorkshire and now based in South West Scotland, John Marshall is a guitarist with a passion for raw, aggressive blues and rock. Known for his fiery lead guitar playing, the former Thundering Hearts guitarist draws his inspiration from the legends of the genre, including Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jimmy Page. His style blends emotive phrasing with technical precision, creating a sound that is both powerful and soulful. Whether he’s laying down scorching solos or weaving intricate riffs, John’s performances captivate audiences with their intensity and passion. A lifelong Leeds United supporter, John also plays in The Subtractions alongside John Bremner
